The CLARION experiment concluded on February 15 th its demonstration phase, where the system developed during the Cloudifacturing Wave 3 experiment’s 20 progress was validated and demonstrated in real life conditions.
Technical partners PLEGMA LABS, RISA and DEMOKRITOS delivered the integrated CLARION system, which offers real-time cloud data analytics utilizing the CloudBroker and CloudSigma resources, based on sensor data collected on-site and transferred on the cloud using CPS and IoT technologies, combining different technologies as a holistic approach (energy disaggregation, DSS, device health monitoring) and delivering an overall monitoring platform and Decision Support tools for Electric Motor‐Driven Systems (EMDS) that assist the plant operators towards reduced energy usage, increased equipment availability and improved process efficiency.
The CLARION platform also includes additional features that were developed during the experiment in order to meet the increasing end-user requirements, and address the continuous feedback collected from the end-users working on the olive oil refinery of ELSAP S.A, such as planned maintenance actions notifications, power consumption per batch and device operation hours.
The system demonstration was successfully completed; the Cloudifacturing experts provided their insights and improvement suggestions during the system final evaluation that took place on February 3 rd , and the technical partners implemented all of the suggestions delivering a robust and efficient system by combining and cloudifying different technologies. The outcome is a cloudified solution to monitor the industrial shop floor and offer to the end-user targeted suggestions on how to improve the energy efficiency and the maintenance plan of the facility, to avoid failures and downtime of the production process, available through the Cloudifacturing Digital Marketplace.
The results were quite promising, meeting the KPIs set during the beginning of the project and the CLARION consortium will now focus on capitalizing on the knowledge gained during the experiment to further develop its solution and pursue any business opportunities.
The Cloudifacturing project CLARION successfully organized its first workshop at ELSAP premises at Nafplion, Greece on July 27, 2020. All CLARION consortium members participated, i.e. ELSAP OLIVE OIL & PRODUCTS, PLEGMA LABS, RISA & DEMOKRITOS.
During this workshop, ELSAP personnel gave a tour on the plant facilities for PLG, DEM and RISA personnel, in order to provide more insights and input to the technical team who builds the DSS.
Moreover, the CLARION consortium gathered several additional information and feedback from the plant facility managers in order to provide better and more accurate energy efficiency recommendations, such as: plant roof measurements to use as input for recommendations such as solar panel installation capacity, availability of capacitors in order to consider cosine customization to consume and pay less, examine the possibility to change the production procedures scheduling in order to save money due to the different tariff that applies during peak consumption hours.
Additionally, the technical team acquired detailed feedback on shopfloor devices and their specifications, in order to use them as input for the Device Health Monitoring module.
The first version of the system was presented to the different end-users and the consortium refined the requirements of the DSS to best fit and increase the value of the system. The end-users were trained to use the first version of the system and were provided with the first version of the user manual, and provided initial feedback on the user interface.
The workshop was concluded successfully providing valuable information to all participating parties, allowing the CLARION project to proceed as planned, achieving the remaining milestones.
